Island music and reggae musicians including headliners J Boog, Common Kings and Maoli are coming together to pay tribute to George Brooks Veikoso, known as Fiji, in the one-night-only concert, Fiji Tribute, on Saturday, Sept. 13, at Tom Moffatt Waikīkī Shell. Fiji died in July. He was 55 years old.
Other featured performers include The Green, Sammy Johnson, Kapena, Ekolu, Josh Tatofi, Manaʻo Company, Rebel Souljahz and more. A limited number of free tickets for the event will become available at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 22. Processing fees may apply. A maximum of four tickets can be secured per email.
Some of Fijiâs most popular songs on Spotify include âSweet Darlin,ââ with more than 31 million streams; âLoney Daysâ with J Boog which has more than 28.5 million streams; and âJowenna,â âShoot Downâ with Maoli and Jamey Ferguson, and âMorning Ride,â which each have more than 16.3 million streams.
Following his death, entertainers took to social media to share tributes. Among those posting was Glenn Awong, of Maoli. He celebrated Fiji at a recent concert, calling him âthe king of island-reggae music.â
Also sharing memories on social media was Dwayne Johnson, known as The Rock, and Iam Tongi, among others.
The Tom Moffat Waikīkī Shell reopened in March, following a closure for six months to accomodate $585,000 in renovations, according to the City and County of Honolulu. Tom Moffatt Waikīkī Shell was built in 1956. The venue is home to concerts, cultural events, graduation ceremonies and community events.
