🚧 This sandwich shop is serving up Italian ice and frozen custard

Just in time for summer, EARL Kaimukī — located in Market City Shopping Center — launched its Italian ice and frozen custard desserts. The business started these desserts at its Kapolei store last August, with the intent of having them available across all of its stores.

“Gelati is a combination of Italian ice and frozen custard,” explains EARL Hawaiʻi owner Justin Parvizimotlagh. “It’s a lighter dessert. Frozen custard is like soft serve, but it’s more rich and creamy. It doesn’t really have the same freezing point as ice cream; it’s a little different.”

Customers can choose from three flavors of Italian ice — cherry, blue raspberry and mango. Mango has been the most popular flavor at the Kapolei store, according to Parvizimotlagh.

Gelati come in one size ($7.75 each) but customers can also purchase Italian ice ($4.25 small, $6 large) and frozen custard ($5) a la carte.

The Kaimukī location is starting with these desserts for now. EARL’s Kapolei location, meanwhile, offers custard sundaes (frozen custard topped with hot fudge) and gelati shakes (basically a gelati in milkshake form).
