Where to find specialty treats for Children’s Day

Children’s Day is coming up on May 5. While the name changed from Boy’s Day to Children’s Day after World War II, the name “Boy’s Day” is still popular in Hawaiʻi. Families often celebrate by displaying carp-shaped flags outside their homes (one for each boy).

Choco leʻa is offering a Children’s Day bento box ($16.49) that includes four fresh mochi truffle sand two chocolate-covered Oreos. Mochi truffles are available in flavors like rainbow shave ice, triple chocolate, lilikoi and more. These boxes are available starting May 1.

Fujiya Hawaiʻi: Boys’ Day platters and a special dessert box collab

Fujiya Hawaiʻi is offering a variety of Boys’ Day platters. Choose from a five-piece set ($7) with a red bean mochi, Rocky Road mochi and chichi dango (melon, haupia and ramune flavors); eight-piece set ($15) with chichi dango, Rocky Road mochi, Habutae (red bean mochi), koi-shaped manju, li hing gummy bear manju and banana cream pie mochi; and 22-piece platter ($50) with assorted chichi dango, Rocky Road mochi, Habutae, banana cream pie, koi manju and li hing gummy bear manju.

The business is also doing a collab with A Cake Life. This specialty set ($15) includes A Cake Life koi cookie, three pieces of chichi dango (melon, haupia and ramune flavors), and Rocky Road mochi with roasted macadamia nuts.

Kulu kulu cake: Assorted Boys’ Day desserts  

Kulu kulu cake is offering specialty chocolate cakes for Boys’ Day. The cakes are available in 4-inch ($36.50), 5-inch ($47.50) and 6-inch ($58.50) sizes. The dessert shop is also offering Boys’ Day bear puffs ($6.50 each).

These desserts will be available for pickup from May 3 to 5. Preorder in-store or online.

La Palme D’Or Patisserie: Assorted Boys’ Day cakes

Choose from a variety of Boys’ Day treats at La Palme D’Or. The specialty desserts include Boy’s Day strawberry shortcakes (6-inch $52, 7-inch $63), chocolate roll cakes (small $28, medium $38), samurai helmet-shaped chocolate mousse ($13), decorated cake pops ($5.50 and decorated icing cookies ($8).

These Boys’ Day confections are available from May 2 to 5.
