A Hawaiian crime saga featuring Leonardo DiCaprio, Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt, will be released by 20th Century and Disney, according to Dwayne âThe Rockâ Johnson, who shared the news on Instagram.Â
Martin Scorsese will be the director. The film tells the story of a mob boss vying for control of the Hawaiian Islands in the 1960s and 1970s and is set to be a combination of Scorseseâs earlier films âGoodfellasâ (1990) and âThe Departedâ (2006). Scorsese is the director of a number of films, including âThe Wolf of Wall Streetâ (2013), âThe Irishmanâ (2019) and âKillers of the Flower Moonâ (2023).
âI was a little boy growing up in Honolulu when this real-life story was taking place and these real men â ruthlessly did what they had to do for respect, money, power but more importantly â for the reclamation of our Polynesian culture,â shared Johnson on social media. âWorking closely with Marty as his vision for our story begins to take focus has been a gift to witness and absorb. Iâm honored to work with this inspiring creative team and even more blessed to call them my friends.â
Recently, Johnson has been part of WWE NXT and WWE Raw. He was the voice of Maui in the animated movie, âMoana 2,â which was released in November 2024, and played Callum Drift in the Christmas movie, âRed One,â according to IMDB.
The script for this crime saga will be led by Nick Bilton, a former columnist for The New York Times and a special correspondent for Vanity Fair.Â
"The story tells of a formidable and charismatic mob boss who rises to build the islandsâ most powerful criminal empire, fighting to preserve his ancestral land,â shared Johnson on Instagram. âIgniting the last great American mob saga, the war for cultural survival takes place in the unlikeliest of places: paradise.â The movie currently does not have a title, added Johnson on social media. Â
