A new sub sandwich shop is open in Wahiawa

Surfer’s Paradise. Pick Your Paradise. Cocoa Beach Classic. These are just some of the fun sandwiches you’ll find at Wahiawa-based Sub Shack Hawaii, which just celebrated its grand opening this past Saturday.

The concept behind recently opened Sub Shack is simple, according to business owner Keenan Eveland.

“It’s sandwiches, designed for grab-and-go, and we’re located close to the military base,” he says. “Who doesn’t like a good sandwich?”

The biz features cold sandwiches for now, available in 6- or 12-inch sizes. Most customers get the footlong on their first visit, but opt for the 6-inch on repeat visits, according to Eveland.

“I noticed we sell more halves than wholes,” he says. “But the size and the quantity of food you’re getting is nice.”

Surfer’s Paradise (6-inch $8.50, 12-inch $15) and Gold Coast Club (6-inch $8.50, 12-inch $15) are the top sellers so far, according to Eveland. Surfer’s Paradise includes roast beef, bacon, pepperoni, avocado spread, red onions and provolone cheese. Meanwhile, Gold Coast features turkey, bacon, avocado spread, cucumber, sprouts and provolone cheese.

“I’ve eaten all the sandwiches,” Eveland says. “I love the Surfer’s Paradise, but if you like turkey, you’ll love the Gold Coast.

“We use a Hawaiian sweet roll,” he adds. “It’s soft, savory, fluffy and sweet but not too sweet and not too chewy. It’s perfect. We slice everything fresh daily.”

The biz just celebrated its grand opening with merch and sandwich giveaways and free fountain drinks. Eveland encourages customers to order online for easy pickup, and says delivery service will be coming in the future.

“During lunch rush, it’s crazy in here,” he says. “Customers can look forward to a good experience — really good quality meat, tasty sandwiches and fresh ingredients. We are in the process of getting quicker; right now, since we are so small, it takes a little bit of time. If you order and pay online, just put your pickup time and we’ll have it ready for you.”
